Bloomberg’s Latest

Lost in the uproar over Mayor Mike’s back flips over the question of term limits, our billionaire Mayor made another curious announcement over the weekend.

Bloomberg told the Daily News, he won’t tell New Yorkers who he will vote for in the Presidential election.

The mayor said he'll avoid endorsing a candidate because he doesn't want to risk alienating the winner if his guy loses. "I don't have a right, I don't think, to jeopardize the people of New York and whatever help they might get in Washington because of my personal views," Bloomberg said.

Let us look at some of the many questions that Mike’s position raises:

1 – Does Mike think Ed Koch, Rudy Giuliani, LaGuardia and all previous mayors were endangering New York.?  All of them did endorse Presidential candidates, without much fear that if the other guy won, he would punish New York. Does he think Governor Paterson was wrong to support Hillary Clinton?

2 – Mike himself endorsed George W. Bush 4 years ago. Is he saying that he was willing to alienate John Kerry but not his “good friends” Barack Obama & John McCain?

3 – Mike’s fear that endorsing McCain or Obama will jeopardize New York apparently doesn’t apply to the State Senate, where he is campaigning to keep the Republicans in control. Isn’t he worried that doing so he will alienate the possible Democratic majority?

4 – Doesn’t Mike owe it to the voters of New York and the country to let them know who you think should be a President during this economic crisis? Isn’t a leader supposed to lead?
