The Gateway (Post-Atonement, Pre-County Committee Edition)

The Rules changes being proposed by New Kings Democrats at Brooklyn’s Democratic County Committee Meeting fall under the category of well intentioned, but lame.

A slyer leader would finesse the whole thing by including all this stuff in his changes and avoiding the confrontation the “reformers” are just aching to have. What real difference would these rules changes make anyway?

Why not propose instead getting rid of Vito's the five personally handpicked At-Large members of the Executive Committee? Why not propose that members of the Executive Committee who openly endorse nominees of another party against a Democrat forfeit their positions by operation of the rules (though that might lose one the Barron families votes)?

Now, those would be real reforms.

On the other hand, it’s a start. These guy will surely be never invited to the picnic at Sunken Meadow run by the organization Vito has absolutely no connection with. the albany project:: Rebellion in Brooklyn www.thealbanyproject.com

Yes, it is always news when Dov Hikind support a Democrat. But, as grateful as I am that Dov is willing to act in his own self-interest, I think his support of prohibitive front-runner Andrew Cuomo does not make up for raising funds for 20 (!!!) Republican congressional candidates and urging listeners of his radio show to support Republicans.

But though Dov may be the most famous of Cuomo’s bearded surrogate’s he may not be the most interesting one. The list includes not only a prominent mohel (perhaps he will give Andrew a few tips) but also the notorious Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum.

Not only a is Tannenbaum a convicted swindler, but he is also Director of an organization, (Igud, AKA Rabbinical Alliance of America) on HateWatch's list of hate groups, whose President, Rabbi Abraham Hecht, is most famous for issuing a fatwa calling for Yitzhak Rabin's assassination.

Perhaps if they linked me more often, I wouldn't be so harsh but the attached piece of thumb-sucking from the Observer is so obviously inspired by my piece from the day before that, at the very least, a hat tip would seem to have been in order.

Right Dave, like you even noticed Gary Ackerman had a primary before you read my column. Just How Bad Was Reshma Saujani's Loss? | The New York Observer www.observer.com

Pardon me if I demur.

I'm not big on collective apologies; frankly I think the demand for collective apologies is part of the problem. Isn't demanding a collective apology the whole root of this "mosque issue"?

I don't see why my neighbor Mohamed, who sent his kids to the same Jewish nursery school as mine need apologize for 9/11, and as outraged as I am by the xenophobic response to the proposal to build a Young Men's Islamic Association at the Holy Mother Coat Factory, I fail to see why I need apologize for the ignorance of my countrymen, when I'm doing everything I can to try to alter it.

I'm sorry, but I'm not apologizing. Message to Muslims: I’m Sorry www.nytimes.com

Just purchased the new Leonard Cohen Live album; it has liner notes by Leon Wieseltier. Good G-d, Domestic Partner's top two exceptions to monogamy combined in one LP. This will most definitely inspire carnality.
