It's 5:00am. It's the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November: so even a grade school student should know that it's all about elections today. All over the country we are going to witness what is called the early “mid-term” elections. This is when a new president is in the middle of his first term, and voters get a chance to express their views in terms of the direction the new president is taking the country. History shows that for the new president's party the congressional results are generally disappointing in mid-term elections.
Lots of people have been asking me to make predictions on today's outcomes; so I will accommodate them: but only slightly. I don't expect much to change in New York's politics (in neither state nor city/local corridors of power). I predict that Democrats will retain control of both the senate and the assembly. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand will both win; so too Andrew Cuomo/Governor (big). And Kevin Parker will be a state senator for at least another fortnight/lol. If Jimmy Macmillan gets more votes than “Chucky-Bee” (Charles Barron), then you can put a “certifiably crazy” stamp on the foreheads of many black voters.
Nationally, there will be many surprises. I have two bets on: one is that Democrats retain control of the House of Representatives; the other bet is that Harry Reid pulls a “Houdini” and returns to lead Dems in the Senate.
I got a BIG tip that the “bitchy” Republican news-maker Michele Bachmann will lose to Tarryl Clarke. If my source is correct then she is going down big and hard. It is said that she spent eleven million dollars defending her seat in the House of Representatives. This is the most money ever spent on a congressional race folks: a new record. We can thank the right-wingers on the Supreme Court for this one.
I am expecting many hard-core supporters of Barack Obama to show up all over the country today, thus saving the Dems from total embarrassment. Election night won't be as brutal for Dems as the pundits have been saying folks: watch. To many folks (especially black folks), there is a perception that BO has been disrespected from day one. Turnout will be higher than expected in many spots. I also expect to see many Hispanic voters at the polls today all over the country.
If you blindly listen to the pundits on mainstream media then you are probably expecting a total drubbing for Dems. I heard one even say that there could be a eighty-seat swing. I say that's BULL. It is conceivable that Repugs could regain control of the House, and to that I say: fine. Let them be responsible for something. Maybe then and only then will they cooperate with Dems to get some needed bi-partisan legislation passed.
Make no bones about this: at this stage in office (the first two-year marker), Barack Obama has been one of the most productive presidents in history. Also note that the democratic-controlled House has been as productive as any other since 1789. Presently, there are somewhere around three hundred pieces of legislation passed by the House that the Senate has failed to complete. This has happened because Republicans in the senate have employed the filibuster to no end. This has been the tragedy of this session of congress. It has a been a shameful display of subtle racism: and it started when Rush Limbaugh announced on radio that he wanted Barack Obama to fail as our president. He said this a day or two after BO swore in: since then Republicans have been trying their best to make Limbaugh's wish come true. They are in for many surprises between now and 2012.
