Klein explain the DNC credo, which I think is best described as common sense liberalism: "It is usually better to raise a child with two parents than with one. There is a culture of poverty. Criminals are not depraved because they're deprived; they're just depraved. Politicker NY says Daryl Towns’ seat is likely to stay in his family's hands, but the Democratic nomination is determined by the AD's Democratic County Committee, and the petition requirement for non-ballot status parties is steep. The District Leaderships are split between the Towns family and the Lopez-allied Dilan family. In addition, there are surely more Latino votes here than blacks.
My bet is that the far more anally-fixated Lopez allies control the AD's County committee. And my guess is that the Towns family will take a dive.
And, as I said to Linc Restler about a year ago, there is no successful anti-Lopez scenario that succeeds without the help of Ed Towns. Towns Seat Looks Likely to Stay in Towns Family | The New York Observer www.observer.com

The night before the 2002 elections, three Senate Democratic operatives were having our metaphorical last meal at Il Colloso in Dyker Heights (at Joe Bova‘s recommendation), when I breached the unthinkable questions: what would happen to our boss, Marty Connor, and, by extension, us, if Vinnie Gentile lost?
Well, Bob Lawton went to California, and, for a while, ran a county; I got to be Gatemouth, and Brian Stratton got to be Mayor of a fairly large Upstate City, and is now going to play Uncle Teddy in “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
