The Is it Good for the Jews Department:
Interesting thought question for Koch.
If Jewish voters punish Democrats by voting against even the most hawkish pro-Israel Democratic candidates, so that that stream of thought is no longer represented within the Democratic party, and US support for Israel becomes strictly a partisan issue, swaying back and forth depending upon the political winds, how does this help Israel? "Weprin is almost the political step-son of former Governor Mario, who made him Deputy Banking Commissioner when he was a 20-something child of virtually the only outer-borough Jewish state legislator to support him in the 1982 Governor’s primary against Ed Koch. Cuomo Sr. later made Weprin Sr. (AKA Saul) the Assembly Speaker." — Gatemouth 2/6/2010
If Silver's really for Weprin, how about he tells Hikind to endorse him or to take a hikind.
Silver’s certainly meted out serious punishments for offenses far less grievous (Admittedly, Shelly can’t take away Hikind’s committee assignments, because Dov refuses to serve on any committees).
If Silver can't deliver a Democratic Assemblyman he’s been awful helpful to to a loyal colleague, he's gonna lose a lot of face with his conference. Silver For Weprin www.capitaltonight.com

Nitpick Department:
Daily News: "Back in what seems now like prehistoric times – before Bloomberg, before Giuliani, before Dinkins – Andy Stein was somebody in this town."
Really now?
Stein was first elected to the State Assembly in 1968. Dinkins was elected in 66. Stein did beat Dinkins to the Manhattan Borough Presidency, but when stein was elected, he had to beat David Dinkins (and then beat him again four years later).
Stein last served in elected office in 1993, meaning he was retired the same year as… David Dinkins.
