So what if Greenfield’s a bit socially conservative, refused to endorse Weprin and is keeping Fidler on schpilches? How could anyone not love the guy who passed this law? City Council Passes Bill Banning Parking Violation Stickers www.politickerny.com

At a holiday party, my longtime adversary Gary Tilzer was singing my praises. "There are only two bloggers in the City who understand what's really going on and the other one is you."

Then, the other shoe dropped. He was going to go after Lew Fidler in the special election for State Senate. He described a long term personal grudge; I have my doubts that the events transpired quite like Tilzer described them, but I had no doubt that Tilzer believed what he said. "You of all people should appreciate a personal grudge. You gotta give me a pass on this one."

He was right; I understood personal grudges.

I surprised myself by wimping out. I told him I would still use my column to correct his misstatements of fact, but that there would not be any of the nastiness that permeated my comments about his GOP-shilling in the Weprin/Turner race.

I then dropped a warning. "Be anti-Fidler if you must, but I would be careful about being pro-Storobin. I've seen his paper trail, and if you back him, you will lose all your remaining credibility in the progressive community."

Now, less than a month later, comes this amazing rant by Tilzer, about the GOP machinations which cost Storobin the support of Davidzon Media.

Tilzer is far harsher on the Senate GOP than he is on Fidler, which is amazing, considering that he calls Fidler a "thug."

I have no idea what underlying financial arrangements, if any, exist between Tilzer and the parties to this imbroglio, and Gary has often been known to slant the truth (talk about understatement), but one gets the feeling that the anger expressed here at the Senate Republicans is not Tilzer's alone, and may even extend to members of Brooklyn Russian community beyond Davidzon. David Storobin's State Senate campaign says opponent Lew Fidler should donate the $1000 he got from a pre-indictment Kruger contribution to charity.

Query: will Storobin call upon the Brooklyn Republicans to match it with the $1950 they got from Kruger?

Another Query: And will Storobin call upon Brooklyn Republican State Senator Marty Golden to match it with the $3000, count it, $3000 (!!!) Golden got from the wife of Kruger accomplice Richard Lipsky?

Like so many of the great hits of Nyorican Soul, Jimmy Castor's "Hey Leroy, Your Mama’s Callin’ You" was performed by a non-Latino, but it pretty much defined the boogaloo sound of the mid-sixties. With one single that good, all the rest is commentary, but the man was a major player in the disco/funk era, even though his first hit was a Frankie Lymon style 1956 do-wop song called "I Promise to Remember" —hopefully, someone will.
