The Gateway (Queens Crap Edition)

Today, I feel impelled to ask what they put in the water in the County of Queens.

Where's There's a Schmuck, There's Fire Department:

The Post flames Jeff Gottlieb.

This campaign is cooking with gas; it's tops in hotness.

Seriously, this might explain all those other races he dropped out of. Incendiary charge vs. Qns. candidate www.nypost.com

Queens Democratic Leader Joe Crowley: We don’t operate that way in Queens County, in terms of trying to set people up for the purposes of diverting votes…I don’t think that works. I don’t think the voting public buys that. And in the end, who we have chosen is Grace Meng…I can’t think of in my time in Queens County when that’s even been done…"

Queens Democratic Leader Matty Troy (1973)=r_Y2z3r_NMcC&pg=PA45&dq=%22matty+troy%22+%22new+york+magazine%22&ei=2pSKT9KiMMLvUPaT1ckC&cd=2#v=onepage&q=%22matty%20troy%22%20%22new%20york%20magazine%22&f=false: They’ll put another Italian into the race to cut Gene's [Mastropieri's] vote and I'll find a guy named Abe Schwartz and get his name on the ballot to cut Feinblatt. Soon there'll be 14 Italians and 14 Jews running. The only difference is the reformers will get people to run by telling them they're doing their bit for good government and I have to get jobs for the losers I put up. At last, Katz and Sliwa; the low-class version of Carville and Matalin.

Questions of taste aside (on either end), the history of Curtis and Melinda’s love match is extremely charming, and might even define "bashert."

But, does anyone really believe that this story wouldn’t have come out sooner if Joe Crowley had chosen Melinda to run for Congress instead of David Weprin?

And does anyone think that this story coming out sooner would have been an asset in the 9th Congressional District?

Not that the real story of the inevitable Democratic defeat still wouldn't have been demographics (one would think the Fidler/Storobin race had finally driven home the point that David Weprin's being a dork was not helpful, but of only minor significance).

Anyway, while withholding tongue clucking over this one is certainly too much to expect, we should from this point onward stop talking about Melinda–any Dem pol who marries Curits Sliwa has clearly made a declaration that they are now retired from politics–she's now a civilian–let's leave her alone (after taking a good hearty chuckle—after all, we’re only human). –anyway, while witholding tongue clucking over this one is certainly too much to expect, we should from this point stop talking about her–any Dem pol who marries Sliwa has made a declaration that they are now retired from politics–she's a civillian–let's leave her alone Sliwa’s a parent & Guardian to secret donor kids www.nypost.com

In this story, we learn that Ruben Wills didn't settle a 2011 parking ticket until last week.

Actually, for Wills, this sets a new record for diligence in dealing with his legal problems. Tix-scofflaw pols www.nypost.com

Hakeem Jeffries says Ed Towns (whose district now includes a part of Queens) is pursuing a "rose garden strategy"?

What would Mick Jagger say?

“Well, when you're sitting there
In your silk upholstered chair
Talking to some lobbyists that you know
Well I hope you won't see me
In the voter’s company
I know I would rather run alone

So lay down, little ET, please lay down
I’ll greet the voters when they go underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Frank me dead flowers by the US mail
Say it with dead flowers at my induction
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave
No I won't forget to put roses on your grave”

Last year, I sort of based a column on this film (shot in Red Hook) but could not include a link because it had been removed from the web.

Well, it is back–so go watch it. Home www.gordongrinberg.com
