The Gateway (Bagels and Slushies Edition)

Hell, with Nader, Roger Stone, Scalia and the butterfly ballot, who can blame us forgetting the crucial role played by Florida's time-honored tradition of voter suppression.

Well, not everyone's forgotten.  Credit the GOP for not forgetting those to whom credit was due. Florida GOP Takes Voter Supression to a Brazen New Extreme | Ari Berman | Politics News | Rolling St www.rollingstone.com

Latest Rangel endorsement: Larry Seabrook. I hear he's even offered to buy  the bagels, provided he's reimbursed. Larry is reported to prefer his bagels with a schmeer (perhaps not the best choice of words).

Funny that a man like Rangel would forget to declare his rental income, but remember to put Larry Seabrook on a list of his supporters. Rangel lining up Dinkins, Koch & Bloomberg for nod www.nypost.com

Jezebel: It looks like Meng's on her way to Washington — the Queens resident has the endorsement of New York City's 2013 Democratic mayoral candidates, Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez, and the several union and trade groups.

They forgot to add the part about her supporters running Jewish spoiler candidates.
Jezebel surely has a right to its enthusiasm about Grace Meng (I'm leaning that way myself), but the most charitable thing one can say about their Panglossian analysis of the facts on the ground is that it is "not entirely clueless," as opposed to being only somewhat so.

Very few in the district have heard of Velazquez; the important unions are split three ways; and Bill Thompson's endorsement is more than trumped here by Ed Koch's. Could These 4 Kickass Young Women Change the Face of Congress? jezebel.com

Queens Guy: thought u might want to know that a kid rang my door bell  and asked me to support Grace Meng because Mark Weprin, who is not my assemblyman was supporting her and because my congressman gary ackerman. who is not my congressman, turner is, is supporting her as well  as because Liz Crowleys cousin Congressman Joe Crowley is supporting Meng.. George Martinez, Erik Dilan and Dan O'Connor spread the preposterous assertion that Nydia Velazquez is pro-Wall Street.

Perhaps, but only if you compare her to Fidel Castro. Nydia Velazquez Supporters Say She's No Wall Street Puppet www.nydailynews.com

As predicted, Dilan's bashing Velazquez on Israel is pretty much restricted to Grand Street. The lit in question, which specifically mentions Carolyn Maloney as the voter's prior Representative in Congress, is extremely geographically specific to that small cluster of several hundred non-Hasidic Orthodox Jewish votes (Maloney represented virtually no one else in the district).

Now, let's see if that supposed Velazquez supporter, Grand Streeter Shelly Silver, forcefully stands up for Velazquez, or whether he takes the dive for Vito. Dilan Bashes Velazquez On Israel; She Bashes Back www.nydailynews.com

While I often disagree with Orthodox Pundit, I never treated him in the manner of an Andrea Peyser, Michael Goodwin or Gene Berardelli I think I’ve usually been quite respectful.

Would that this were a two way street.

Bonasera… what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully?

About a month ago, OP practically baited me into responding to one of his columns, and I did in respond to him, point by point, in some detail, but despite his promises to link me if I refrained from bad language, he failed to do so.

Today he accused me of “going easy” on Congressional candidate Dan O’Connor’s creepy Ron Paul connections, and thereby his connections with neo-confederates and other racists.

This is just unfair.

Actually, I have repeatedly called out Paul for his newsletters and other manifestations of his possible racism. I’ve called out candidates for supporting Paul candidates for supporting Paul and for using his hatesheet/newsletters as a business model.

I’ve even just recently called Paul “a neo-Confederate crank.”

Further, the idea I’ve been soft on Dan O’Connor for his Paul connection is preposterous.

I’ve not only done it several times, I pretty much took the lead in documenting it documenting it and calling out on that basis those who offered O’Connor assistance.

Further, together with Chris Bragg, I documented exactly whose allies were doing so.

I even went one further, linking O’Connor with the inarguably anti-Semitic NAPpies.

I will admit, that I don’t take O’Connor quite as seriously as Orthodox Pundit, but Orthodox Pundit is probably the only NYC political blogger who has taken O’Connor more seriously than I have.

But the fact that O’Connor is merely a potential spoiler rather than a potential victor is not the only reason I haven’t given O’Connor the Storobin treatment. The other is that O’Connor appears to be a somewhat naïve and idealistic, but ultimately harmless, ideological fanatic, while Storobin gives the strong hint of being a crypto-fascist dog-whistling genocide denier genocide denier.

As long as we’re on the subject, I would also like to note that in the same article OP seems to minimize the amount of Bob Turner’s district has been swallowed by the new 8th CD, and seems blithely unaware of what a pernicious anti-Semite Jimmy McMillan is Jimmy McMillan is. OP actually thinks McMillan is “entertaining.” Orthodox Pundit: News & Political Analysis orthodoxpundit.blogspot.com

TIMMY MCKENNEDY: Brooklyn Tea Party President and true conservative Joseph Hayon, who was instrumental in delivering wins for both Congressman Bob Turner (R-C) and State Senator David Storobin (R-C), has moved into the 41st Assembly District to run for State Assembly.

GATE: Not a swift move on Joe's part. The 41st AD is a quarter black and Obama is on the ballot, and Hayon is unlikely to crack the assimilated jewish vote–I don't think the numbers are there. In addition, the white areas of the 41st were carried by Fidler against Storobin; Fidler even did pretty well amongst the area’s Orthodox.

If I were Hayon, I would have gone into 47th AD, which just lost its piece of Marlborough Houses. Lots of Sephardim, plus Russians, and still many Italians, many of whom have had GOP sympathies to begin with.

Do the numbers and you'll see which of these ADs went for McCain.

Helene Weinstein will have to work it for a change, and it will be ugly, but, barring a miracle or an arrest, this district will elect a Republican to the Assembly the year the Assembly flips to the GOP.

As predicted, Storobin is still ahead. As predicted, the vote changed. Somewhat surprisingly, Fidler was the one who gained (though apparently not enough).

While it appears that defenders of the machine's accuracy not have data in their favor, a final conclusion on that hypothesis awaits a more detailed analysis. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2012/05/a-rather-nebulous-late-night-sd-27-update-0 www.nydailynews.com
