Today we learned that Charles Barron is an accomplished legislator who can pass his bills (provided he keeps his sponsorship a secret), and wrangle votes from colleagues behind the scenes (though he won't name names and none of his colleagues will admit to it). The Obama/Barron argument:

Con: By being the Democratic nominee for Congress, Barron becomes a national embarrassment, forcing the President to either denounce a duly nominated Democratic Congressional candidate, or be criticized for not doing so.

Pro: By calling the President a “mouthpiece for a racist, imperialistic American foreign policy controlled by generals and corporate elites,” Barron provides and irrefutable illustration of Obama's sensible moderation. I am so sorry.

I was way, way out of line with my comparison of State Senator David Storobin to Robert Mugabe, and I humbly apologize for drawing a false moral equivalence between the two men.

While it is true that both men are homophobic apologists for ethnic cleansing, there the similarity ends.

There is ample and irrefutable proof that Mugabe is not a white supremacist, and the same cannot be said of Storobin. http://www.r8ny.com/blog/gatemouth/the_gateway_usual_suspects_edition.html www.r8ny.com

This article is correct that Joe Hayon will not beat Helene Weinstein, but gets the reasons, and practically everything else, dead wrong.

Democrats lost the Special Elections for Congress and the State Senate not primarily because of the scandals of the former incumbent, but rather because of demographic chickens that came home to roost, and specific issues which mattered to specific blocs of voters. And, in fact, these demographic trends have been reflected in those districts' local,  state and national elections results

Weinstein will win, but her victory will not disprove the primacy of the same demogrphics–it will prove that primacy.

Weinstein will not be beat because her district is 1/4th black. http://lezgetreal.com/2012/06/republican-seeking-to-unseat-pro-equality-ny-democratic-state-senator/http://lezgetreal.com/2012/06/republican-seeking-to-unseat-pro-equality-ny-democratic-state-senator/Republican Seeking To Unseat Pro-Equality NY Democratic State Senator | Lez Get Real lezgetreal.com

Why would a Haredi website edit Helene Weinstein out of a photo?

Is her stunning beauty really that distracting?

Goldberg endorses unilateralism-lite:

"…successive Israeli governments succumbed to the (understandable, from a certain point of view) temptation to settle the West Bank (the most highly populated of the territories Israel captured in the war) with religious pioneers. The settlers today represent the vanguard of binationalism, not the vanguard of Zionism — if the stay in the West Bank permanently, they will most likely forestall the creation of a Palestinian state. No Palestinian state = a very difficult future for Israel as a democracy." When Will the Six-Day War End? www.theatlantic.com
