Ignorant Flatulence Watch:

Michael Goodwin (exemplifying most of the local media):

More than a week after the vote, the board is a sputtering font of excuses about why it isn’t close to determining a final result in the race to unseat Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel.

Except for one thing Michael; even if every machine vote had been counted perfectly last Tuesday night, the determination of the final result would be in exactly the place where it is right now–mired in a laborious and litigious paper count. ‘Keeping’ America www.nypost.com

While the timely and accurate reporting of elections returns is an extremely desirable public good, and the Board of Elections’ refusal to use the technology within its grasp is inexcusable, I'd give kudos to any reporter who moves on from focusing on delays in reporting the 13th CD machine count, which was completed last week, and instead starts reporting on the substantive complaints concerning how the election was conducted and whether they add up to something or not. As Colin noted today, complaints about the Board of Election making erroneous reports on election night are nothing new, and neither is the fact that those complaining the loudest often do not have clean hands in the process themselves, though they do often seem to be State Senators from Upper Manhattan.  http://www.r8ny.com/blog/gatemouth/perkin_off.html www.r8ny.com

Asked if he would consider running again, Erik Dilan says:

I haven’t ruled it out. If it makes no sense to run, I’ll consider that, but if it makes sense to try things differently I haven’t closed my juncture to that.

Given the foregoing, he also gives a plausible explanation why Vito Lopez is not to blame for his defeat:

Several people made Vito the central figure. In areas I wasn’t known it may have, but I don’t think it was a factor at all. I don’t know how much of a negative impact it was. I can’t say specifically they didn’t go for me because I was supported by Vito Lopez. There could have been tons of reasons why they didn’t support me.

Amen to that buddy.

But I shouldn't be so hard on Erik. It is real hard to be running around with an open juncture. Exit Interview: Erik Martin Dilan | City & State www.cityandstateny.com

Does anyone think the Senate Republican Campaign Committee did not know Janis Castaldi had a same sex marriage and was therefore unacceptable to the Conservative Party?

Did they also not know she comes from the only town on the wrong side of the river in a district contiguous only by waterborne transit, and otherwise only accessible via a bridge with a half hour wait to cross?

David Brooks: I‘ve never understood the left’s disenchantment with Obama. He runs a country that’s 22 percent liberal and he pushes through more gigantic pieces of progressive legislation than we’ve seen in decades and liberals go around moping that he’s not tough enough, or he’s too moderate, or he doesn’t hug people enough.
