The Gateway (Explicating Skurnik Edition)

As I pointed out over a year ago, visual or taped evidence makes a big difference. No one has ever survived it. All those complaining about the difference between Weiner and David Vitter don't get it. You wanna know the difference? Ask Mark Foley or Chris Lee (neither of whom see to have gotten any either). Russ Gallo ups the ante on Cymbrowitz and Akslerod on the question of who most despises Sodomites.

Sorry guys, but Leviticus 20:13 says "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them," so until one of you calls for public executions, I think we have to write you off as insincere panderers. As usual, Skurnik is first up with the list of primaries.

Without attempting to be comprehensive, a few observations about some races I haven't commented upon previously:

"Senator Ruben Diaz is opposed by attorney Kafahni Nkrumah" is perhaps Gatemouth's worst nightmare:

Crazy homophobic extortionist challenged by a member of the Freedom Party who makes his living defending accused (and later convicted) Islamist terrorists and objects to the Supreme Court decision upholding health care reform because it will delay the passage of single payer.

To make it even more interesting, Nkrumah not only disagrees with his hero Chuck Barron on same sex marriage, he’s actually published a piece of legal scholarship on the evils of DOMA, which I’ve seen Chuck say he supports.

Note: Two other FP members, Edwin Figueroa (77) and Maximino Rivera (86) are seeking Bronx Assembly seats.

"Senator Gustavo Rivera is challenged by sports agent Manuel Tavarez"–the IDC attempts to broaden its base beyond opportunists by backing a genuine social RINO.

"Assemblyman Jose Rivera faces State Committee member Ricardo Martinez."–As Edgar G asks in "Little Caeser," "Is this the end of Rico?"

"Assemblyman Mike Benedetto is opposed by former candidate Egidio Sementilli."–Jerry just reprints this one every year.

"District Leader 77th AD: “Incumbent Mark Escoffery-Bey is challenged by Benny Catala"—Escoffery-Bey is not merely a lunatic; he's a lunatic who wins.

Which, in the Bronx is often preferable to the alternatives.

"John Sampson is being challenged by former candidate Elias Weir," —How crazy is Weir? Crazier than putting Ravi Batra on an Ethics panel. Weir is also the nominee of the Conservative Party.

"Eric Adams is being challenged by former candidate Guillermo Philpotts."—Jerry just reprints this one every year.

Assembly AD 54: "Assemblyman Rafael Espinal is opposed by Juan Rodriguez." Montezuma had his revenge and Nydia has her's (Part 28). District Leaders: "Councilman Erik Dilan in being challenged by Cyril Joseph & Paula Melendez is opposed by Darma Diaz." Montezuma had his revenge and Nydia has her's (Parts 29 & 30).

Assembly AD 55: "Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. has 8 opponents. This may be a record for an incumbent even if all don’t run. The challengers are – Nathan Bradley, Anthony Jones, Christopher Durosinmi, Bilal Malik, Dion Turner, Roy Antoine, Anthony Herbert & David Miller."

Leader: "Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. has 6 opponents for Leader. Some are also running for Assembly. The challengers are – Wesley Hope, Bilal Malik, Daniel Goodine, Leonard Hatter Anthony Herbert & David Miller IV."

–How does someone with Assemblyman Boyland’s record (in every sense of the word) and lack therefore, survive?

By avoiding ballot access challenges.

It is suggested that some of those doing double duty may want to team up and consolidate their efforts.

District Leader 45th AD: "Incumbent Michael Geller is challenged by former Assembly candidate Ari Kagan"–The Russians Are Coming (Part 97)

District Leader 53rd AD: "Incumbent Maritza Davilla is opposed by Gladys Santiago." Is Nydia really running the whack-job former District Leader? Sometimes one can take revenge too far.

District Leader 56 AD: "Former Council candidate Robert Cornegy is opposed by Congressional staffer Al Wiltshire." Montezuma had his revenge, so why shouldn't Ed Towns partake as well?

District Leader 60th AD: "Councilman Charles Barron & Kenny McLemore are challenging incumbent Earl Williams. Assemblywoman Inez Barron is running against former Assemblywoman Diane Gordon & Nikki Lucas."

–Another Gatemouth nightmare: A Democratic Party position is being sought by someone who only two years ago tried to start his own political party (and probably will try to do so again).

Meanwhile, Barron's similarly disloyal wife is being challenged by a convicted felon who tried to induce a bribe with the purpose of allowing her to move to a better neighborhood.

Also, Jerry missed one race. In Manhattan's 74th AD, incumbent Brian Kavanagh is being challenged by pierrenial candidate and father’s rights wacko Juan Pagan. http://www.r8ny.com/blog/jerry_skurnik/nyc_primary_contests.html www.r8ny.com
