I have been often asked how could I go toe to toe in questioning politicians, especially Mayor Giuliani over the Amado Diallo Case where I was often the only person of color present in the City Hall Press Corps.
Well here is the honest answer is that part of it was growing up watching my man "George Jefferson." Yes it was a funny sitcom, but "George" weekly taught some of us young men of color that didn't have father figures that we could be fearless, STAND-UP to anyone, AND be a successful businessman. I believe I was 11 years old when the series started.
"Good Times" was cool, but that was too close to my life. George Jefferson–Sherman Hemsley—was THE MAN. I discussed him on RNN-TV. May Mr. Hemsley rest in peace.
