Look, I don't want to get too deep here. There is no need for all that. Things are both simple and elementary. The stuff this column purports to be about is truly self-explanatory.
Speaking as someone who has known Anthony Weiner for many years; and someone who supported him when he was seeking public office (I actually voted for him a few times); there is something I regrettably have to say now. Please don't forget that I was one of the few political columnists in NYC who pleaded with him not to resign from the House of Representatives a couple years back. Plus; I was also one of the few columnists who implored him not to withdraw from the mayoral race four years ago. He had a serious shot at defeating Mike Bloomberg (especially on the term-limits issue).
It's time for Tony to pull out from the mayoral race: right now. If he continues running he will be only embarrass himself (and his wife) further. His candidacy is flaccid. His campaign is impotent. It's time for him to prematurely evacuate. He is becoming a bad sex joke that's stale and played out. He cannot win this erection (oops, sorry: I meant election). He has already become a laughing stock.
Anthony needs to find a way to reclaim his dignity. That's going to be a very difficult assignment. I could only wish him luck in that endeavor.
NUFF SAID.
Stay tuned-in folks; this will probably become one of the shortest columns I will ever write.
