Good Thing All The School Budgets Passed

According to Current Employment Survey data from the New York State Department of Labor, government employment fell by 3,100 in New York City and rose by 6,700 in the rest of the state in the 12 months through April 2007. The long-term trend thus continues. In exhange for about the same share of state education funding, including back door "tax relief" aid which school districts elsewhere just voted not to use for tax relief, New York City will be subject to all kinds of additional oversight and accountability. No additional scrutiny beyond the city line, however. And, apparently, no tax relief without it. Does this mean that the rest of the state is overtaxed, so New York City;s share of state funding has to go down if a recession hits?
