The Times does an entire section today on the Elections, complete with a State by State summary? But where are the results for our state legislature or local judgships?
But, The Times, after all, is the National Paper of Record, so surely they can't be bothered. But, the Post and Sun are similarly bereft, while the News contains only a list of City's legislative winners with their winning percentage, but no names of opponents, or vote totals. Newsday also had limited information. If only Brittany had been a candidate!
Finally, I looked on New York One. No help for races over the City line (as if who won legislative seats outside the City of New York had any impact upon our lives). But, at least it had all the City races, including judgships; and they proved quite illuminating.
Take this interesting result:
Supreme Court District 2
William F. Mastro [Dem], 61984, 23.88%
Joseph J. Maltese [GOP], 33844, 13.04%
Michael V. Ajello [GOP], 32583, 12.56%
Karen B. Rothenberg [Dem], 31658, 12.20%
Jack M. Battaglia [Dem], 31448, 12.12%
Delores J. Thomas [Dem], 30435, 11.73%
David I. Schmidt [Dem], 30392, 11.71%
Michael S. Reinhardt [Con], 7167, 2.76%
Reporting: 357 of 357 precincts – 100.00 percent
Wow! Even in the years of Republican landslides, never in my long lifetime has a Republican ever won a Supreme Court seat in the 2nd Judicial District (Brooklyn/Staten Island), and yet, in the years of the greatest Democratic landslide since Johnson/Goldwater, Republican managed to win two seats. The outrage about Judicial Corruption Scandals finally must have caught up with the Brooklyn Democrats. Strange though that Hevesi won so big among the same folks (let alone statewide).
Well, there is a better explanation. There are 357 precincts in the 2nd Judicial District, but only if you forget to cross the Verrazano. New York One forgot to include the 2021 precincts in Brooklyn. In actuality, all five Democrats won. Oops!
Maybe if our local print media deigned to print the results, someone would get them right.
(CLARIFICATION: Newsday's website [but not its print version] actually has all the results you could ever want, although because of confusing labeling, some of them are very hard to find)
