The Gateway (State of the State Edition)

I get it. It's a crisis; we need to consolidate, innovate, freeze and cut, even though it will mean suffering. It is time to bite the bullet. We must all share in the sacrifice.

The Governor is right. Even though it is in some ways in variance with my own personal self interest, I support that.

What I don't get is how cutting revenues and giving a gift to millionaires helps advance the Governor's goals.

Or maybe I don't understand the Governor’s goals. Let 'millionaire' tax die out, Cuomo says www.nypost.com

Was I the only one who noticed that while the Governor was talking about abolishing all those unnecessary commission, he proposed about a dozen new ones?

GATE (1/3/11): "…though the incoming Senate Democrats have as many seats as Skelos did, there will not be a Senate "Minority" in the sense that Skelos led one. Without a pot of gold to be obtained at the end of the rainbow, there will not even be an uneasy alliance."

I'm still trying to rationalize how this Paleface Conference is different from The Amigos; I'm not sure I can, beyond the fact that the players here are not only not out for pecuniary advantage like Pedro, Carl and company, but, in fact, have forfeited such advantage, which is a BIG difference.

Beyond that, this group comprises most, but not all, of the Senate Democrats who represent relatively conservative constituencies, but are themselves relatively socially liberal.
