Dov Hikind, who raised money for over 20 Republican Congressional candidates and who executed a last minute switcheroo from Mike McMahon to Michael Grimm, would make an excellent Congressional candidate–for the GOP, although I’m not so sure they’d agree in Gerritsen Beach and Breezy Point.
If Dov runs as a Repub, they should throw him off the Dem State Committee immediately (but, in actuality, they shoudda done it years ago).
And despite Hamodia’s vast knowledge, I feel compelled to point out that Far Rock is not in the district. Brooklyn, NY – Assemblyman Dov Hikind Mulling Weiner Seat Run — VosIzNeias.com www.vosizneias.com
The 9th Congressional District's communities have elected more than one gay pol to office, including, quite possibly, one member of Congress, but they've all been in the closet (OK, that may not be not fair, Drom and Von Bramer may each have some EDs).
Lyn Schulman is a fine and intelligent person, and we could surely do worse (and probably will), but if the idea is to avoid a real contest for this seat (and avoid risking the embarrassment of it going to the Republicans), Schulman would not be the candidate with the easiest path to victory.
Also, check out this neat piece of dialogue:
LIZ BENJAMIN: Schulman’s candidacy would be historic, since she is a lesbian and would – if she were elected – be the first openly gay member of New York’s congressional delegation. In addition, Schulman pointed out that her victory would return the seat to the hands of a woman – the district used to be represented by the late Geraldine Ferraro, which people tend to forget. (I know I did).
GATE: The reason you forgot Weiner’s seat was represented by Ferraro was that it wasn’t. Crowley’s seat was represented by Ferraro, although it is true that parts (far less than a majority) of the seat were represented by Ferraro.
I’ll just add that the predecessor to Weiner’s predecessor was Liz Holtzman. Add Schulman’s Name To Mix For Weiner’s Seat (Updated) www.capitaltonight.com
If outsider Cody McCone had the cojones to run a real race against real competition, he'd have challenged his own State Senator, Marty Golden, years ago, instead of leaving him unopposed election after election.
This bag of wind wants to run in a district with which he has no connection because he thinks it can be handed to him, which it can't.
And my guess for the name of the sitting NYS Congressman who urged McCone to run is Peter King (R-NY), which is why he declined to name him.
If Cody McCone were a really serious candidate for Weiner's seat, he'd change his name to Kosher McCohen McCone Makes His Case for Weiner’s Seat | PolitickerNY www.politickerny.com
Nevermind Department:
In this piece, and its follow-up, we learn that Reshma Saujani, a potential candidate with zero history in the 9th Congressional District, negative ethnic affinity (she might remind people of the former Congressman's wife) and backwards ideological connection (economically conservative and socially liberal in a district that leans exactly the opposite), won’t be making the race after all. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Peyser, whose intelligence I've often compared to that
of bovines, is like the cow who gives the most milk and then poops in the bucket.
Here, without knowing it, she beautifully illustrates how the legal normalization of gay families leads to acceptance leading to further normalization. I'm glad that Peyser, who a year ago published a hate screed about ”The Kids Are All Right,” is now made to see the error of her ways because it impacted someone related to her by blood.
Then she spoils the moment by criticizing the Mayor for reasonably equating the persecution of one religious group with that of another.
The lessons of Passover, that one shall not oppress the stranger, because we too were once strangers. seems lost upon someone who, IN THE VERY SAME COLUMN, posits the proposition that it is offensive to remind Jews what they learned at their Seder.
Peyser has proven by her prose that she opposes the location of mosques anywhere within the City. What will it take for her to assimilate the same message about Muslim she learned about gays? If only her niece had married Irshad Manji.
No matter how grave the crimes of Islamic extremists, I think it is asking too much to demand Moslems marry off one of their number to a relative of Peyser's, so that she again can see the error of her blatant and pervasive ignorant bigotry.
As I’ve noted, Peyser’s also pretty much endorsed the right of cab drivers to personally decide who they serve, solely on the basis of race, an idea, which, if taken to its logical conclusion would mean a black male could never get a ride anywhere (not to mention violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964). Maybe we can wish that her daughter marry a black man so that she will come to her senses on that one too. Gay nuptials – this time, it's personal www.nypost.com
