When I told everyone that Charles Barron will win the “black” vote from Ed Towns, most thought that I was on crack. Now many ask me how I made that call. It was a simple call to make really (maybe at another time I will get deeper). Observe that I never endorsed anyone in that race. Observe also, that I predicted Ed Towns as the winner. When I endorsed Hiram Monserratte for the 13th Senatorial, many called and said that I was really losing it here. I went a step further; I predicted that he would win. On election night Hiram was a couple hundred votes behind. I still predicted that he would win. Now they are counting. I am predicting that when it’s over Hiram will win.
On Election Day, many Hispanics came to the poll to vote for Hiram; many were turned away. My sources are saying that many-who were quick thinking- did affidavits. There is a lot of paper to count folks. Either way, next time around it won’t be this close. Sabini brought in many many heavyweights to save his ass; including the Clintons (all three), Weiner, Schumer, Helen Marshall, Adolfo Carrion, etc.etc. Next time many of them won’t be around.
What happened here was foreseen two years ago when the test run was done. Sabini struggled home against an unknown. That was a test, and nothing but a test. You didn’t have to change your channel to see this coming. If by some luck Sabini wins this time, then you can still stick a fork in him, because next time he is cooked/ done.
Stay tuned-in folks.
SIDEBAR: In tying-up loose ends, I will give my post-election “grapevine” column, later this week. I am down to writing here once (maybe twice) a week for the next 6 months.
