Our hearts are with the family of Leiby Kletzky, the 8-year-old Brooklyn boy who got lost while walking home alone from day camp in his Orthodox Jewish neighborhood and was killed and dismembered by a stranger he had asked for directions. Leiby’s remains were found stuffed in a trash bin and the man's refrigerator, police said last week. The suspect, Levi Aron has been charged with murder.
Believe it or not the notorious Florida mom, has her freedom after being acquitted this month of killing her 2-year-old daughter. Anthony, whose case became a national sensation, received scores of threats from people who believe she had something to do with the disappearance and death of her daughter Caylee. Casey Anthony walked free from a Florida jail early Sunday morning, three years and one day after she was first arrested for her role in the disappearance and, eventually, death of her 2-year-old daughter. Anthony walked out of the front door of the Orange County Jail at 12:09 a.m. with her lawyer by her side and two Special Response Team officers with green vests. Sheriff's deputies had two contingency plans laid out, but in the end opted to go with a public release."We have made every effort to not provide any special treatment for her," said Allen Moore, the spokesman for the Orange County Corrections Department in a statement. "She has been treated like every other inmate in her custody class." She then walked out of the jail building doors and into a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. Her hair was pulled up in a tight bun and she had on a bright pink V-neck T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. She did not show any emotion.
Cuomo is looking strong.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's war chest pulled in $6.2 million in the first six months of the year. Cuomo has had one of the best first legislative sessions by a freshman governor in many years. Cuomo closed a $10 billion deficit without raising taxes or borrowing.
He also won sweeping ethics reform, the historic approval of same-sex marriage and the creation of the state's first local property tax cap.
It’s good to have a fortune.
Mayor Bloomberg tapped his personal fortune this year to help his personal image.Campaign filings released Friday show the billionaire mayor dropped $5.6 million in March and April on a blitz of TV ads, polling and mailings designed to improve his reputation. Bloomberg’s approval ratings plummeted in the wake of the city's bungling of the December blizzard cleanup, the CityTime fraud scandal and the mayor's choice of an untested publishing executive to run the city schools. "We wanted to put the mayor's views out there, and we did," Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser said.
A few thoughts on this Sunday.
