Rudy & Families

Responding to a question asking why he should expect loyalty from voters when his children aren't backing him, Rudy responded

"I love my family very, very much and will do anything for them. There are complexities in every family in America "The best thing I can say is kind of, 'leave my family alone, just like I'll leave your family alone.'"

But does Rudy really believe in leaving our families alone?

He didn’t leave the families of Richard Wigton and Timothy Tabor alone. As the Wall Street Journal wrote –

Giuliani had his agents burst into Kidder, Peabody, throw Richard Wigton up against the wall and handcuff him. He arranged to bust Timothy Tabor so late in the day that he had to spend a night in jail before he could post bond. Mr. Giuliani didn’t think Mr. Wigton was going to pull a knife or Mr. Tabor would flee the country. He lusted after the headlines, and hoped strong-arm tactics would coerce settlements.

Wigton and Tabor had all charges against them dropped.

He didn’t leave Patrick Dorsimond’s grieving family alone when he released the sealed court records of his juvenile infractions.

He didn’t leave the women who called his radio show to complain that son had been shot dead by a police officer alone when he told her –

“Maybe you should ask yourself some questions about the way he was brought up.”

He didn’t leave Terri Schiavo’s family alone when he supported the bill to keep her on artificial live support.

He’s not leaving families with same-sex couples alone when he opposes domestic partnership laws.

I just don’t see Rudy as much of leave you alone kind of guy – does anybody?
