The New York City Board of Elections has certified the results of last month’s Primary elections.
Here are the results (with a little commentary).
BROOKLYN
The only contests n Brooklyn were Democratic Primaries for judicial posts. These are the only contests that received anything close to significant media coverage.
As is well know, in the Countywide race for Surrogate, insurgent Supreme Court Justice Diana Johnson easily beat Criminal Court Judge Shawndya Simpson by a vote of 25,488 to 16,834. The turnout of 42,322 represents a little over 5% of Brooklyn’s Democrats.
In the 5th Civil Court District, former City Councilman Noach Dear defeated former Judge Karen Yellen 4,017-2,737. The turnout here was a little higher than Countywide but still less than 6%
In the 6th District, Katherine Levine, running with the support of both the County organization and the local reform Democratic clubs beat Sharen Hudson 3,989 to 2,917. Turnout was about the same as Countywide at a just over 5%.
QUEENS
The contests in Queens were in the Republican Party, where insurgents led by brother Bart & John Haggerty ran candidates for State Committee in an attempt to oust County Leader Phil Ragusa.
I don’t know enough about internal Republican politics to allow my designate which candidates are on which side, so I will just list the results.
Each AD elects a Male and Female State Committee member. If a district is not listed, there was no Primary contest.

MANHATTAN
In Manhattan, the contests were in a few districts north of 96th Street for District Leader.
In the 68th AD, Part A, for Male Leader, Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell won a 4- way contest with 377 votes versus Johnny Rivera’s 272, Edward Gibbs’ 270 and Eduardo Franco’s 109.
Incumbent Female Leader Evette Zayas was defeated in a 3-way race. Diane Green received 394, Monica Brown 255 and Zayas trailed with 196.
68 AD, Part B Male Leader Harry Rodriguez was re-elected with 313 votes to Manuel Onativia’s 246 and Edward Gibbs’ 159.
68 AD, Part C Male Leader John Ruiz was re-elected over John Estrella 455-302, while Female Leader Wanda Lactchman lost to Marion Bell 397-253.
70 AD, Part A incumbent Male William Allen beat Geoffrey Johnson by a vote of 291 to 166.
In 72 AD, Part A, both incumbent leaders won easily. Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat beat Kevin Campbell 1,110 to 240 and Mayra Linares beat Judith Amaro 855 to 339.
In 72 AD, Part B, the main event was for Female Leader. Incumbent Maria Morillo, backed by Assemblyman Espaillat was re-elected over the candidate supported by Councilman Miguel Martinez, Albania Lopez and a 2 other candidate. The vote was Morillo 1,008, Lopez 899,Yocasta Sosa 195 and Francia Rodriguez 89.
For Male Leader, Councilman Martinez won big, 1,805 to Wigberto Astacio’s 251.
