The Gateway (Tolerant Intolerance and Every Other Kind Edition)

Odds on favorite for SC's Governor and 1st Congressional District are Republicans–one of South Asian origin; the other Black. A triumph of what I call The New Tolerant Intolerance”," Michael Steele's effort to wean the GOP off race hatred and direct its hatred elsewhere and thereby reach social conservatives across racial lines where they exist aplenty. Now this strategy appears on the way to victory in a State where some if its uglier antecedents were first brought to fruition by the likes of Lee Atwater.

One potential Achilles heal elsewhere: the most fertile area of potential growth for this strategy is among Latino immigrants, but asking adherents of the New Tolerant Intolerance on all sides of the racial divide to give up immigrant bashing may be asking them for more tolerance than they are ready to muster. Yesterday, I said the left should regret dissing Petraeus–perhaps now they do; I also said that, Bill Kristol notwithstanding, some on the right would probably call Obama a traitor or worse–and I was right Michael Savage Compares Obama to Hitler in Handling of McChrystal Incident | NJDC Blog www.njdc.org

I once heard the late Robert Muir, a notorious election lawyer, say “we need a judge who's smart enough to understand our argument. Unfortunately, we got one who's a bit too smart." A voice of sanity from the Spanish left; Money quote:

Why don’t we see demonstrations against Islamic dictatorships in London, Paris, Barcelona?

Or demonstrations against the Burmese dictatorship? … See More

Why aren’t there demonstrations against the enslavement of millions of women who live without any legal protection?

Why aren’t there demonstrations against the use of children as human bombs where there is conflict with Islam?

Why has there been no leadership in support of the victims of Islamic dictatorship in Sudan?

Why is there never any outrage against the acts of terrorism committed against Israel?

Why is there no outcry by the European left against Islamic fanaticism?

Why don’t they defend Israel’s right to exist?

Why confuse support of the Palestinian cause with the defense of Palestinian terrorism?

And finally, the million dollar question: Why is the left in Europe and around the world obsessed with the two most solid democracies, the United States and Israel, and not with the worst dictatorships on the planet? The two most solid democracies, which have suffered the bloodiest attacks of terrorism, and the left doesn’t care.” Svensk Israel-Information: Why don't we see demonstrations against Islamic dictatorships in London,. si-info.org

I for one find this good news, because Mike Love is unworthy of cleaning Brian's shoes with his tongue affter Brian's walked through a cow pasture:

Statement on the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary: "As The Beach Boys approach 2011-2012 touring season, which will mark their 50th anniversary as a band, speculation continues to… grow among fans and media as to reunion possibilities among all the original surviving members. In response to recent stories Mike Love had the following comments: "The Beach Boys continue to tour approximately 150 shows a year in multiple countries. At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour. He has new solo projects on the horizon and I wish him love and success. We have had some discussions of writing and possibly recording together, but nothing has been planned. I, as I¹m sure he is, am proud and honored that The Beach Boys music has endured these 50 years, but felt the need to clarify that there are no current 'reunion' tour plans."
