Angry Teabaggers Look the Other Way at Local Taxes and Spending

Angry Teabaggers Look the Other Way at Local Taxes and Spending

Some angry teabagger types have set up shop by the Fishkill post office with loud angry signs that call for the impeachment of President Obama because of among other things his spending.  Let’s not even bother to argue that President Bush was the original big spender with his bailout bill.  Let’s just look at what is going on under the nose of these protestors.

First, the Town of Fishkill is asking the state for permission to issue $6.5 million in bonds to pay for operating expenses something the Poughkeepsie Journal has cited as unusual.  This may not be a trillion dollars but it sure seems like that kind of money considering the population of the town is less than 7,000 households compared to the United States population at 300,000 people.  That adds up to a lot of per capita spending for this small town.

Now news has come in that Dutchess County wants to issue $3.5 million in bonds to pay for a new phone system.  We suspect they are tired of their cordless phones and want to upgrade to Iphones.  Again, more big spending at a time when Republicans are calling for cut backs in spending everywhere but in their own back yards.

Meanwhile the teabagger types at the Fishkill post office are pacing angrily up and down the sidewalk wanting to impeach the president.  Can’t win an election, then impeach the president.  But how do you do that if you don’t control Congress and still won’t be able to even if you win back Congress because you still won’t have enough votes.

But God forbid you look in your own backyard where local government wants to spend close to $10 dollars all together paid for on the backs of the children of working class families, people who work with their hands and drive used cars unlike many elected officials with their brand new gas guzzlers.  A few county legislators have spoken out against the telephone bond issue.  One is Alison MacAvery who simply says, “Now is not the time.”  And she is right, families can barely make ends meet and our government in this county is continuing to spend spend spend spend.

The post office protestors don’t seem to realize it but they are also at ground zero for higher taxes in the Village of Fishkill where property taxes rose this year.  You remember what happened to the last president who said “read my lips, no new taxes.”  But rest assured these protestors won’t go after this tax and spend crowd they would rather go after the president who hasn’t raised their taxes and only plans to put the tax rate for the rich back up to the levels of the Clinton years when we were in a surplus and had great prosperity.  But that’s politics, all is illusion and teabaggers will complain against tax and spend policies unless of course they're carried out by fellow Republicans.  So it’s up to ordinary citizens to say no to Fishkill spending, no to Dutchess County spending and no to Fishkill Village taxes.  No, no, no.
