Save Our Veterans

Save Our Veterans

By Michael Boyajian

60 Minutes reported tonight that thousands upon thousands of veterans from our most recent wars are homeless.  This is a vast sea of humanity, a sea of heroes who put their lives on the line defending their country a country where they now find themselves without a roof over their heads.

These vets are overwhelming homeless facilities and many are forced to live on the streets with no place to sleep.  What can we do about this?  We must mobilize all veteran organizations across the country calling them to service once again only this time by opening their halls to these homeless.

At least for the foreseeable future we must ask these groups to put aside their bingo nights and other programs and provide beds and square meals for these homeless vets.  We must ask them to make one more sacrifice for their country.

There are large numbers of veteran halls throughout the nations more than enough to accommodate our homeless vets who are a Diaspora of heroes.  Heroes of past wars must reach out a helping hand to our newest vets and end this epic tragedy.

There is a famous photograph of a hiker reaching the summit of an Adirondack mountain and immediately turning around to help the next hiker up.  This is the ideal that our older veterans must adopt to help our newest vets, the ideal of compassion, and a call once again to duty.  Semper Fi may be the Marine motto but it can apply to all our veterans regardless to service branch in this effort to save the lives of this new generation of American heroes.  Heroes who now find themselves in dire need.
