Corporate Communism

Night after night drinking at the trade show hotels bragging to your business colleagues the next morning how drunk you were the night before regardless to the amazing culture there may have been ignored around you.  It was a vacuum in space living not on your own dime but on the corporate expense account.

There you are driving the finest company car, staying in the best hotels dining with clients at four star restaurants imagining that you were a wealthy individual when it was nothing more than an illusion, in reality corporate communism living off the scraps thrown to the floor by the fat cat major shareholders and corporate officers.

It also had all the homogeny of communism.  Everyone was dressed in their Mao suits – navy blue suit, white shirt, red tie.  Executives upon reaching upper management were given a silver Porsche all parked in a row in the front of the building for everyone to see; only the president had a red Ferrari.

And the perks did not stop there.  There were also the accumulated air miles and hotel points supplemented by the regular travelers who paid a higher rate so the airlines and hotels could give the corporate travelers free travel incentives.  You were supported by the regular traveler who sat cramped back in economy class while you enjoyed a roomy airline seat in business class.  You were the first off and on the plane, given a champagne toast upon take-off.

All in all it was an empty lifestyle when considered but for the excitement offered to a young person until you realized that all this travel amounted to nothing.  You were not seeing the sites only cloned hotel lobbies and clients who looked and talked just like you regardless to what region of the country you were in.  You were all the corporate class, the corporate bureaucracy.   And when considered it was a vacant existence few were able to escape.  It was a bloated way of life that in essence had sucked the life out of America’s business acumen.
