The Gateway (Eileen Dugan Memorial Edition)

In honor of St. P’s Day, the attached blog post asks if anyone has any Eileen Dugan stories they'd like to share.

Dozens.

Here's a couple.

1) Even on her death bed, she insisted on personally doing the seating chart at the 1996 IND dinner, and at that dinner, she gave her own eulogy.

2) She told me she went to Congressman John Rooney's funeral and then traveled to the cemetery, just to make sure he was dead. Pardon Me For Asking: Eileen Dugan: The Most Famous Irish Carroll Gardener pardonmeforasking.blogspot.com

L Magazine proves it doesn't understand power.

Quote: "Lopez has represented Williamsburg and Bushwick in the state assembly for close to 30 years, but his real power derives from his chairmanship of the Kings County Democratic Party, which he has held for five."

WRONG!

Lopez's power does not emanate from his party leadership; his party leadership emanates from his real power (which is his social services empire) Who Made the New Brooklyn (and Who Controls the Old) | Features | The L Magazine – New York City's L www.thelmagazine.com

A source somewhat close to Vito says: "Somebody who should know says that Mealy controls 55 AD County Committee, not Boyland."

I suspect that if that is indeed true, then Vito had a hand in it.

Another reason why Linc Restler's statement which, in part, condemned Lopez for backing the Boylands, is of rather limited value.

My question is why would anyone distort the facts about Lopez, when the truth would suffice?

The First Amendment allows one not to behave like a good neighbor, even when simple courtesy would dictate otherwise. I think this is primarily a good thing, so I back the right of Fred Phelps and this bitch to engage in behavior offensive to others.

This piece of delusional psychosis details how housing isn't needed to pay for the expenses of Brooklyn Bridge Park, because alternatives, one of which is a special zone where residents would pay extra taxes (which the leading opponent of housing, Dan Squadron, has already announced opposition to) have the potential to yield $2 to 7 Million of the yearly $16 million necessary to keep the park running.
