My home is within 20 miles of the Indian Point nuclear reactors well within the 50 mile exclusion zone advised by the United States for the destroyed Japanese reactors.
A friend of mine told me Indian Point was perfectly safe. He lives on Long Island outside the 50 mile zone. I’m the one who loses his home, health and life in the event of a meltdown.
But forget that, New York City is 50 miles from Indian Point. Where do we relocate 8 million people to in the event of a nuclear catastrophe or the 18 million all living within the zone? What happens to the billions of dollars of now unusable prime real estate? Doesn’t all of that push us into a worldwide depression all to keep a few energy executives rich and to knock 6 percent off our utility bills? You tell me what makes sense, what is worth the risk.
