There should be no need to defend an American president. Our presidents are supposed to be strong almost like super heroes these leaders of the free world, of the planet in fact. But there comes a time when one must be compelled to intercede into political affairs and stand by our president a leader elected to the highest office by a majority of American voters under the rules of our great democracy.
I speak of President Barack Obama who finds himself embattled at every step by the white Republican men of Congress. Steps that other white presidents took for granted he is denied and must struggle to attain not because he is weak but because of the Republicans he faces.
Why do these Republican make it so difficult for Obama risking the well being of all Americans for their own agenda. My 82 year old mother in law, until recently a lifelong Republican, has the answer. She has lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the 60s and Vietnam, 9-11 and the Iraq War and she in all her wisdom believes it is because these white Republicans can’t stand the fact that a black man is the president of the United States of America and they will be damned if they are going to work with someone who should be serving them a cocktail at the country club.
Yes, I said it now it is out in the open. It is not as Paul Krugman says, because Obama is a Democrat, it is as my mother in law says because the president is black that the Republicans will bring the nation to its knees to teach this black man a lesson. You remember how they taught a black man a lesson in the 1950s for whistling at a white woman. They’d lynch him. Today they will destroy the nation to teach us all a lesson. How dare we the voters put a black man in the White House. And these crackers will take us all down to the whipping post to teach us a lesson for doing that.
