Correction time: The very damning quote from Bob Turner linked here about cutting the budget 35% was not from June 2001, that was a typo–the quote was from last month (and the date is now corrected).
Republicans have been trying to create a narrative about David Weprin being a dirty campaigner, by raising a piece in somewhat questionable taste he once sent out about his opponents' opposition to hate crimes legislation.
To put things in perspective, the so-called victim, Bob Friedrich, himself put out an attack on Weprin (on the “Ground Zero Mosque;” Weprin not only refused to oppose it, but wouldn’t even do a Weiner-like pander). which qualified as the single most disgusting piece of campaign literature of last year not associated with Carl Paladino— a gross 9/11 exploiting anti-Muslim hate piece.
Also in this disgraceful club is Turner.
Here is Turner in August 2010rner-speaks-against-mosque-near-ground-zero, speaking against the "Ground Zero Mosque" saying “If they want to build a mosque, they can build it somewhere else—anywhere but Ground Zero."
I’ll stipulate that one can understand this wrongheaded position.
However, what I cannot understand is how, a month later, Turner suddenly decided Voorhees Avenue was hallowed ground, and spoke at a rally against a mosque in Sheepshead Bay.
The intellectual limits of hipsterhood are amply demonstrated by this attack on David Weprin, which quaffs Ed Koch's Kool-Aid without question.
The worst part is when I sent Kelsey Turner's one month old quote about wanting to cut the federal budget a whopping 35% and he responded “Well…if we ended the wars, how much would that the budget by?"
As if Turner, whose idea of patriotism is falafel-bashing, is going to vote to end any wars.Ed Koch Endorses Republican Bob Turner for Congress | Heeb heebmagazine.com
