Because of the volume of direct emails I received in response to my Hillary 2012 blog I feel compelled to revisit the issue in a little more details. I should immediately point out that it was a good idea posting such a blog calling for Hillary Clinton to run against President Obama because it was sort of like lancing the boil or getting out everything in the light of day or just getting a dialogue going on what is going on with the Obama Administration.
Some people have come immediately to Obama’s defense as if he were an underdog battling a goliath tea party. My wife makes the point that he seems to have made himself into an underdog in his relations with the tea party crowd, a small but vocal fringe group.
Nonetheless these Obama supporters have me feeling sorry about attacking the president and I keep seeing his sad puppy like face floating in front of me at times. Once again my wife points out that it was not me that betrayed my liberal base.
The next group of respondents agrees with me that Hillary Clinton is stronger and more experienced than Obama but running against him will fragment the party and cause the Democrats to lose the election in 2012. This group believes it would be prudent for Hillary to wait five years before she runs for president. They also believe Obama will win in 2012.
The next group agrees with me and washes their hands of Obama but goes on to say they wash their hands of all Democrats going nowhere near making a commitment to Hillary 2012.
The last group agrees totally with me but is furious with all incumbents unfortunately which means Republicans will lose the House and Democrats the Senate and the White House unless someone like Hillary emerges and runs for the high office.
I found each group’s points compelling and honest but in the end came to realize that we as Democrats are locked in a stalemate over what to do and that in the end Obama’s fate and place in history are entirely in his own hands.
