The Gateway (Truth Squadron Edition)

A reader complained that I'd laid into State Senator Dan Squadron's for his empty opposition to housing in Brooklyn Bridge Park, but spared Assemblywoman Joan Millman.

I'd explain the difference between Millman and Squadron thusly.

Squadron built his career on this issue. Millman, surveying the damage he wrought, cowardly jumped upon his bandwagon, mumbling her insincere agreement as quietly as she could get away with.

In other words, Squadron built a pile of bullshit, and Millman added one turd to the pile.

And those now complaining that they and the Park were sold out still believe that the bullshit is ice cream.

The Park is the ice cream.

A bunch of spoiled rich people from the Brownstones want others to foot the bill for it, and believe that someone they will escape from having to pay any price whatsoever for something which has wildly benefitted their neighborhoods, preferring the local equivalent of the Ryan plan, in which cuts to the City's revenue stream and programs benefiting others will subsidize a huge benefit to them.

And the number one dealer of the political "crack" is Danny Squadron, who like any drug dealer who burns his client base will now have to deservedly face the fate of those who try to sucker deluded junkies. I'd be more impressed with Bob Turner's call that Weprin return two checks from campaigns which were over two and six years ago if Turner asked his supporter Marty Golden to return a far larger check from the same source which Golden got within the last year.

How come no one in the press is asking Turner whether Golden should also return his check?  Today in NY-9: Richard Lipsky, Brian Lehrer and The Obama Question | PolitickerNY www.politickerny.com

Colin and his "Brooklyn Politics Blog" deserve all the kudos he's been granted here, except for the ones where they give him the credit for being the first one to predict David Weprin's nomination and opine on Liz Holtzman’s flaws as a candidate.

We all know who deserves the credit for those things.  50 politicos to watch: Bloggers – David Catanese www.politico.com

Typical of the Post's partisan bias is the notion conveyed here that only Democrats in NYS lean on/bribe not for profits and community leaders for support (as a veteran of the Senate Democrats, I can vouch otherwise in voluminous detail), engage in election law litigation (most of which this year comes from the GOP), or eliminates the public from the special election process. The reporter also forgets the difference between Marty Connor and poor old ancient Queens District Leader Morty Povman.

Not to be a killjoy, but while it might seem ridiculous in an off-year to knock someone off the ballot for forgetting a district number, it is surely a lot less so in a regular election in a City  which contains 60-plus Assembly Districts.

Also notable (but not noted): Paul Newell, cited here as the righteous voice of reform (and not even acknowledged as an incumbent party leader—probably because that would queer the narrative) is currently trying to knock his opponent off the ballot. Sock the vote! www.nypost.com

Answer: Levi Aron suicide watch.

Question: What is the hottest ticket in town?

Before anyone condemns me to hell for this, let me ask if they've been staying up at nights comforting an eight year old who can't sleep because of an irrational fear of a murderer wearing an Elmo costume.
