The Gateway (American Tune Edition)

I heard there wasn't a dry eye when Paul performed "Sounds of Silence" today, but when I finally woke from my hangover on 9/12/01, I played this one twelve times in a row. It will always be my 9/11 song, and maybe should be our national anthem. American Tune | Paul Simon | Music Video | MTV www.mtv.com

Goldberg: That is the crucial truth of 9/11. Osama Bin Laden had gathered to him men who were devoid of love, and who found in al Qaeda a vehicle for expressing their hatred of humanity. On the 10th anniversary of the murderous rampage committed by soulless men, we should remember the victims, and count our own blessings, and recommit ourselves to the suppression of evil and the protection of the innocent

And

Self-criticism is necessary, even indispensable, for democracy to work. But this decade-long drama began with the unprovoked murder of 3,000 people, simply because they were American, or happened to be located in proximity to Americans. It is important to get our categories straight: The profound moral failures of the age of 9/11 belong to the murderers of al Qaeda, and those (especially in certain corners of the Muslim clerisy, along with a handful of bien-pensant Western intellectuals) who abet them, and excuse their actions. The mistakes we made were sometimes terrible (and sometimes, as at Abu Ghraib and in the CIA's torture rooms, criminal) but they came about in reaction to a crime without precedent. Hang your head in shame, Ben Smith. As someone who spent five years in the field of Domestic Relations Law, I have to note there is a reason why such proceedings are sealed in NYS (even published opinions omit the names).

This tells us nothing except that two people were very mad at each other 25 years ago.

But we should all be mad at Ben Smith now.(And let me be clear–this might not have come from the GOP–I still remember the Michael Hizme story)  In leaked custody filing, 'heedless' Weprin; 'dirty politics' alleged – Ben Smith www.politico.com

Tilzer: "What is Happening in the 9th is a Tea Party with voters who share democratic values. If the NYT and others lump it in with the right wing tea party they will drive the voters in the 9th out of the Democratic Party."

No Gary, if Turner wins, then on Wednesday morning it will be the GOP which will call it a victory for right wing Tea Party values, and it will be useful idiots like you and Phil Anderson who will share in the blame. True News: 911 2011 truenewsfromchangenyc.blogspot.com

Much to my regret, at least two very different political bloggers I knew decided not to publish the real story concerning this year’s Kings County Civil Court Primary, a story which, for personal reasons, I was (and am) not comfortable doing myself.

The very incomplete bottom line is the Party’s Independent Screening Panel rejected the choice of the Party leader (proving its independence), though the Party Leader ultimately settled on someone else.

The messy process by which the panel did so proved that even one bad apple could gum up (and nearly ruin) something done with the best of intentions, but that’s a story for someone else on another day (but unfortunately probably never will be).

In the meantime, there are two qualified candidates running. Unlike in Manhattan, the candidate with the better CV is not the one against whom ethical  questions haven raised.

As such, the better choice would seem to be Cheryl Gonzalez.
