The Gateway (Filing Deadline Night Edition)

I love Mary Alice Miller, but a few points are in order about her piece puffing the nearly non-existent prospects of the State Senate Dems, which should be subtitled “The World According to Mike Gianaris’ Masturbation Fantasies.”:

1) The assertion Marty Golden hasn't had an opponent in ten years is somewhat incorrect. He did not have an opponent for eight years, but he did have one two years ago.

2) “If you look at the democratic performance in his district, he represents a very democratic area that vote Democrat for every other elected official but him,”

I'm not sure Bob Turner, Nicole Malliotakis, Jimmy Oddo or David Storobin (who currently represents part of Golden’s new district) would agree.

3) What is pro-gay radical feminist Miller doing puffing anti-choice, anti-gay, Democratic turned Republican turned DINO Chuck Swanick?

4) "There are two districts in Nassau the DSCC is looking at"

Looking at? Petitions are being filed by tonight at midnight and you can't even name the candidate?

5) “Simcha Felder is going to win in November"

Perhaps; but what he will do in January is quite open to question.

6) "The DCSS is looking forward to 32 seats, which would be comfortable enough so that there are no Democrats in Name Only (DINOs) like Espada."

With the IDC, Diaz, possibly Felder, and maybe Linares?

The 6/29 resignation of Judge Sarah “Sally” Kraus left her seat open in the Brooklyn's brownstony 1st Municipal Court district, setting up a last minute rush for petitions; one candidate, Richard Montelione still had people on the street at 5:30 PM with petitions due tonight by midnight.

Opposing Montelione is Lara Genovesi (daughter of the late great Tony). Both candidates have sterling credentials, though my personal sentiments are with Lara (even if most of my local allies will be going the other way).

The shame of this race is that most people will decide who to vote for based upon who is backing whom, rather than upon who is qualified, which is a hell of a way of picking a judge.

Mostly, I suspect this will be covered in the press in the context of the Simon/Scotto race for District Leader (and, to a tiny extent, the Restler/Olechowski  race in the 50th, which has a very small overlap).

Ironically, I expect most of the votes will actually come out of Fort Greene, the only place in the district which seems to be facing a primary for a public office.

Incidentally, I am told that Montelione is not related to the owners of the great Carroll Gardens bakery, which will surely be a disappointment to election inspectors expecting the candidate to be dropping them a goody box on primary day.

Dominic Carter (7/12/2007): President Hillary? Here's how we discussed the topic on RNN-TV.

Bill can't run, but sure thinks his wife has what it takes, and Bill may have a good point. Bill Clinton says his wife is “the best Senator in modern times.”

There are no questions or road blocks; we will see Hillary in 2008. Will Cuomo Run? Sure looks like the nomination is his. | Room Eight www.r8ny.com
