DeBlasio sensibly thinks bike paths should be subject to the same sort of public comment and community input as other land use decisions.
The Bike Lobby goes nuts.
I respect their fears here. After all, if a mayoral candidate is allowed to suggest such things without having his ethics questioned, it is only a matter of time before we slide down the slippery slope and the fascist auto-thugs demand we stop at red-lights and stop signs.
And from there it is only a step to the final solution De Blasio’s bike warpath www.nypost.com

Another dumb reporter not aware that district numbers change
John Murphy (yes, the current one's dad) Vito Fossella & Michael Grimm are a sad record for any district (sort of like being represented in the State Senate by Israel Ruiz, Efran Gonzalez and Pedro Espada), but don't these people have enough problems without saddling them with Bert Podell, who spent his entire time in Congress serving a district which sometimes (but not always) adjoined John Murphy's and never included an inch of Staten Island?
And yes, technically Grimm does today represent a tiny bit of Podell's old district, but by that standard, if he's re-elected under his new lines, we could then saddle the poor folks on The Rock with the Weiner scandal as well. NY District Plagued With Scandal abcnews.go.com

I love Chris Bragg, who will be sorely missed, and out of respect for him and his legacy of great stories (and numerous Gatemouth links), I'm going to withhold further comment about his unfathomable dismissal–But it's taking all my strength to do so. Before I leave the topic of Chris Bragg, let me administer a small love tap.
The McManus Club is the "only Citywide political club"?
Huh?
Bragg did post a correction from my email noting what that the Stonewall Democrats could qualify (they may be LGTB, but they are citywide)–and so could DFNYC.
He did not note that several other groups of that nature could also qualify. But, more importantly, he missed the real point of my email:
"…actually McManus is really a club mostly based in Dick Gottfried’s AD (and arguably a bit of Rosenthal's) –the idea it is citywide is something of a fantasy–even if it has membership outside its catchment area from old Irish sentimentalists." From time to time I've drawn some heat for questioning the "reform" credentials of City and State's new Editor Morgan Pehme, which I've done in some detail.
One point of special controversy is that I wrote how, when Vito Lopez was seeking to elect his Co-District Leader, Maritza Davilla, against Diana Reyna for City Council, Vito encouraged the “reform” candidacy of one Gerald Esposito, whose “reform” credentials included being President of an oldline Regular Democratic club and being District manager of a Regular Democratically controlled Community Board.
Pehme ran Esposito’s campaign, whose purpose seemed largely to attack Reyna and drive away votes from her to which Davilla would have no access anyway.
And it nearly worked.
During that that time, Pehme loudly denied all this, and to this day, his friends defend him.
So it is instructive to note that the Regular slate running against the slate fielded by Reformer Lincoln Restler in his epic battle for re-election includes a slate of Lopez-supported Alternate Delegates to the Judicial Convention, and that that slate includes Gerald Esposito.
