Food Poisoning America

Food Poisoning America

My digestive track is shot, my feet swell after eating in restaurants and I feel like I am going to collapse at times.  Then I visit Europe for a few days and my health is magically restored.  Mind you I am not staying at spas just doing the normal tourist thing in London, Paris, Florence and Spain for instance.

Soon after my arrival at these locations there are no longer any surprises in the bathroom, swollen feet, unexplained weight gain or lethargy.  I feel like a twenty year old once again.  You might think I have discovered the fountain of youth but there is a simple explanation.

The solutions lie in the food of Europe.  Their meat, dairy and produce do not contain hormones, antibiotics, chemical additives nor is it bioengineered.  We grow tomatoes the size of softballs here in the U.S. yet they are completely lacking any flavor.  Our butter just tastes like salted vegetable oil while in Europe butter has a richly textured flavor that brings you to an ecstatic state.

To find similar food in the states you would have to live on expensive organic foods while in Europe everything is what we call organic and reasonably priced.  I was eating a salad in Italy once and I asked the waiter what is this it tastes so good, he replied, “Proprio la lattuga,” it is just lettuce.

It’s as if the American food companies are poisoning us for profits.  I am not alone with these symptoms, just the other day my local used book dealer told me of a similar story where it ends up he can no longer eat certain foods for unknown reasons.  These are foods he has enjoyed all his life.  And my wife was having digestive problems and fearing the worst we spent a year undergoing tests for her all coming up without any answers.  Then a doctor talked to her about diet and we decided that she could no longer eat artificial sweeteners.  Within days her ailments were gone.

America is ripe for a food revolution like that created by Upton Sinclair in the Jungle.  But until then you have a choice move to Europe or invest in pricey organic foods and watch your ailments fade away into the recesses of a bad memory.
