Greater Mediterranean Economic Zone: A Continuum

Greater Mediterranean Economic Zone:  A Continuum

With the EU merged with the Middle East and North Africa in my previously proposed Mediterranean Economic Zone the question is what happens next?  Several things can now occur beginning with the 800 pound gorilla in the room, Russia.  Russia must join the EU or what has now become the Greater Mediterranean Zone eventually spreading the zone east into the Far East providing trade linkage with China, Japan, Taiwan and the Koreas.

This has a domino effect leading to an economic union between China, Japan, Taiwan and the Koreas that also spills south into Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and even the Philippines though the later may join with a union formed to its south to be discussed below.

Our attention then turns to India and Pakistan.  These nations must overcome their differences so as to form an economic union that includes Burma, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan and Sri Lanka and other nations.  This seems difficult yet wealth potential will drive them together  Moving further south we come to another union zone which includes Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, New Guinea and nearby island nations.  As an aside, areas of the Middle East not yet part of the Mediterranean Zone and Central Asia have possibilities as well.

The North Africa portion of the Mediterranean Zone can then spread south merging with the African Union bringing stability and affluence to this region.  Hot spots here diminish because there is no longer a struggle for dominance with all unified for the greater good and overall wealth potential.

Proof of such an outcome exists today in the EU where hot spots like Northern Ireland and the Basque region have cooled down with Britain even agreeing to the formation of a Scottish Parliament.  This theorem also has potential for China loosening its grip in Tibet and relaxing its need for reclaiming Taiwan since all are now joined as one economically.  Even Kashmir cools down as India, Pakistan and other nations in that region unify.  Looking ahead to the union that will include the U.S. perhaps over time the Native American nations will find independence.

We now turn to the Western Hemisphere.  Fortunately two entities exist that foster union.  First there is NAFTA which joins the U.S., Canada and Mexico to some degree.  More importantly there is the Organization of American States which to some extent is now obscure to many Americans yet is the grandfather of all international unions.  The OAS provides the groundwork for union between North, Central and South America with its already in place hemispheric intergovernmental apparatus.  This union unlike the others jumps ahead and quickly includes two complete continents.

So there you have a basic outline for worldwide economic unions which may eventually develop into a group of several mega unions as opposed to say almost 200 separate countries allowing for an easier transition into a one world planet embraced in as the Dalai Lama likes to say peace and prosperity.
