You can love the Rev. Al Sharpton or you can hate him, but Mr. kingmaker is going to an entirely different level. This week, none other than President Obama will attend Sharpton’s National Action Network annual conference in mid-town. This comes on top of two years ago, Vice President Joe Biden showed up.
Remember 3 short months ago, Sharpton (who is a strong defender of Mr. Obama) was watching the Super bowl at the White House with the President and First Lady. Sharpton is the president of “Black America.”
Andrew Cuomo has proven he’s the man
Forget Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos
believing they are calling the shots in Albany, there is a new sheriff in town and his name is Andrew Cuomo. It’s amazing what a State Attorney General investigation into one-time allies like Liberal Party leader Ray Harding, Consultant Hank Morris and Former Comptroller Alan Hevesi can do.
While living with the actual budget cuts may prove to be difficult for many state residents, if you would have said that Cuomo would succeed where, Paterson, Spitzer, Pataki and even Cuomo’s father failed, and that is, not only getting a budget on time, but closing a 10 billion deficit with no new taxes or fees, most consultants have said it’s not going to happen. That it’s only campaign rhetoric. Will there be a relationship between Cuomo and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Hey, many governors and mayors of NYC have had an antagonistic relationship.
Poor Mike Bloomberg
Gov Cuomo makes the budget cuts, and Mayor Mike is left holding the bag. With already bad poll numbers, and with his legacy in mind, team Bloomberg is taking no chances and are airing commercials, (Radio and TV. A few million of Bloomberg‘s money) saying hey folks Bloomberg is the fighter for New York. That Bloomberg is the guy that delivers for the city. Smart move Mr. Mayor, perception in politics is everything. Just don’t tell the unions that you are fighting for the workers Mr. Mayor.
Kirsten Gillibrand says show me the money
The days of underestimating NY’s junior Senator Kirsten Gillibrand are long over. Not only has Gillibrand held her own by showing she could win repeatedly, she just broke the $3 million mark for campaign dollars for the federal reporting period ending recently. Gillibrand was pulled out of nowhere (upstate in this case) by Gov. David Paterson to replace Hillary Clinton, and maybe Paterson knew something the rest of us did not. Talk to her for five minutes and you will see the lady is no joke.
Gillibrand wrote in the e-mail thanking supporters, (obtained by The Associated Press)
"We have given our potential opponents 3 million reasons to understand that a fight for our Senate seat won't be easy"
Gillibrand now faces re-election to a full term in 2012.
Way to go VCU, and LIU
Critics dismissed you as ''unworthy'' for the NCAA Basketball tournament- and a whole lot worse – but boy did you show “the expects.” It was you VCU that made it to the final four last night, and was one game away from the championship game. Your coach Shaka Smart made you believe, and willed you to win. Your team led by tough point guard Joey Rodriguez never game up. You fell short, but you guys are champions. So is LIU for that matter. The small college across the street from Juniors in the heart of downtown Brooklyn playing in NCAA tournament. We expect the Syracuse’s of the world, the St. John’s of the world to be on the big stage, but LIU, you too showed us that the best basketball players will always come from NYC.
Just a few thoughts on my mind on this Sunday.
