Field of Dreams

Field of Dreams is, if not one of the great films of all time, certainly the greatest baseball movie of all time.  I had an emotional epiphany recently watching the movie.   It was when the main character meets his late father again and looks to his Iowa home and realizes he has saved the family home and reconciled with his estranged father.  Many dreams come true in this field.

Now Republicans want to bulldoze the field taking away the cornerstone of the American middle class, home ownership, the foundation of the American Dream.  You may ask how they are going to do that.  Well just like they managed to put Medicare and Social Security on the bargaining table now they have got the home mortgage interest deduction on the table as well.  Why raise taxes on the super rich when you can cut the heart out of the American Dream with millions of Americans losing their homes or being unable to buy one for the first time because of the loss of the deduction which puts just enough cash back into the household budget to help most of us make ends meet.

If you think the current housing crash was bad, wait until you see the crash that results from the loss of the deduction.  You will see echoes of 1929 with this fiasco.  But why do Republicans want to do this?  Well as is the case with most unhappy people they do not want to see others happy, you know the line, how dare that guy smile when I am so angry.

Well it’s going to take more than this to cut the heart out of America and its dreams.  You see one thing about we Americans is that we are blessed with a lucky country.  After all, George Washington defeated the greatest empire of all time, Able Lincoln saved the Union, FDR defeated the Nazis and we all brought down communism.  Luck will prevail again and the dark forces will face defeat once more, I guarantee it.
