O Equals Zero

I applied for a federal job recently.  Keeping in mind that I am a former judge they insisted that before they would accept my application they would have to see my college transcripts from 30 years ago.  I told them I am a former judge that should be the best indicator of my abilities not my childhood transcripts.  They would not budge on their insistence.

This led me to the following conclusion.  Tea Party radicals insisted in the past on seeing President Obama’s birth certificate.  I say let’s see his college transcripts.  Oh rather than spend a year chasing our tails over his transcripts let me instead show you his current transcripts based on his performance in the White House.

Let’s see there was the saving the family home program where if you took option one the refinance you could not later take option two the lowering of your payments which led to option three which they forgot to tell everyone about and which expired two weeks ago without being used.  Grade: 0,0,0.

The ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and now whatever is going on in Libya: 0,0,0.  Fear of Republicans, caving in on social security and Medicare: 0,0,0.   No public option in the health care program: 0.  Not making Hillary vice president: 0.  Bailing out of fat cats on Wall Street and lack of job creation: 0,0.  Overall grade 0.

Does this mean I will vote for a homophobic, racist Republican crazy who adheres to crank economic theories for president?  Absolutely not.  Maybe if there were an Eisenhower, Ford or Bush Senior out there but those types of Republicans are long gone leaving us with the uncompromising extremists that we know today.

I will tell you what I am going to do.  I am probably not going to vote for president in 2012 the first time that I have done that since I began voting at age eighteen back in 1976 when the choices were Gerry Ford, Jimmy Carter and Eugene McCarthy and I chose McCarthy.  Four years after that I went with Carter as I still would today if that election were held again today.

What is the difference between back then and today?  Hope.  We had hope for the future back then and today we have nothing but despair and that is my final report card grade evaluation on Obama and the Republicans, a big fat zero for despair.
