"Ben-Gurion revealed that his annoyance with Trotsky stemmed from the revolutionary’s position on the Brest-Litovsk peace talks between the Russians and Germans to end their part of the fighting in World War I. Trotsky wanted to implement a policy that was known as “no war-no peace,” storming away from negotiations but also declaring an end to fighting. This waffling approach was, Ben-Gurion told Peres, “not statesmanship. That’s some sort of Jewish invention.” Lenin pursued peace, accepting its price in much lost territory, but he got to build his communist paradise. In short, he cut his losses and moved on — which is also not a bad way of describing how Ben-Gurion approached the building of the Jewish state. Ideology drove him, but he was more interested in putting stakes in the ground, even if they involved difficult sacrifice." Secrets of Ben-Gurion's Leadership www.forward.com

Subject: [CGNA] Re: Testimony Of State Senator Daniel Squadron at the Joint Public Hearing Regarding the Proposed Co-Location of Brooklyn Success Academy Charter School 3 in Building K293

Ms. Cape:

Thank you for forwarding me Senator Squadron's "testimony" regarding the proposed co-location of an Eva Moskowitz Charter School at the the International/Global Studies site. Still, several questions do arise.

First, I am unaware of any "approval" by SUNY CSI – on any date – of the change of location of Brooklyn Success Academy 3 from D13-14 to D15. I am cognizant of their position that all Community School Districts in Brooklyn are fungible. But, in fact, AFAIK, the November 29th hearing was also concomitantly a SUNY CSI "facilities hearing". That proceeding is supposed to be a PRE-CONDITION to a SUNY-CSI approval. If you and/or Daniel know otherwise, PLEASE DIRECT ME TO THE PROOF IMMEDIATELY as it would constitute a "green light" to the initiation of litigation.

Second, as you know, despite the document's title, unlike Assembly Members Millman and Brennan and Council Members Levin and Lander, Daniel did NOT speak or even appear at the "joint public hearing" held on November 29th. Likewise, I have no recollection of any representative from his office reading or distributing that letter either (unlike the case of Sen. Montgomery's staffer). Further, I never saw the letter until you sent it to me. Moreover, I have seen NO press account of Sen. Squadron's "questions" in ANY outlet.

Either Daniel has the most incompetent communications apparatus known to Brooklyn or else, that lack of publicity was intentional. For the reasons I gave to Carmen Farina set forth below, I am leaning towards the latter hypothesis:

[TO: Carmen Farina (Former Deputy Chancellor & District 15 Superintendent)FROM: JIM DEVORNov 29, 2011Carmen,

In case you didn't know, the Chair of Success Academy's Board of Directors, Joel Greenblatt, and another of its Directors, John Petry are two of Daniel Squadron's biggest campaign contributors.

So are hedge fund Charter School advocates Anthony Davis, Charles Ledley, Bryan Lawrence and R. Boykin Curry IV:

<http://www.followthemoney.org/database/StateGlance/candidate.phtml?c=117398>

Perhaps that might explain Daniel's hesitancy to support your proposal?

Regards,

Jim Devor; President, CEC-15]

If I am incorrect in my surmise, then I would be happy to apologize. Towards that end, do I have Daniel's consent to formally enter his letter into the record to be presented to the Panel for Education Policy for its consideration at its December 14th meeting in Elmhurst? Can I help distribute his letter to my press contacts? Will Daniel speak at the PEP meeting on the 14th? If so, can he give me a lift?

"Nasty" e-mail blast?

Nasty?

I am reminded of Harry Truman's explanation of the origins of the slogan, "Give 'em hell, Harry". All I did, Truman said, was to respond to Republicans accustions with the truth. "And the truth just sounded like hell."
