Field of Dreams is, if not one of the great films of all time, certainly the greatest baseball movie of all time.  I had an emotional epiphany recently watching the movie.   It was when the main character meets his late father again and looks to his Iowa home and realizes he has saved the family home and reconciled with his estranged father.  Many dreams come true in this field.

I applied for a federal job recently.  Keeping in mind that I am a former judge they insisted that before they would accept my application they would have to see my college transcripts from 30 years ago.  I told them I am a former judge that should be the best indicator of my abilities not my childhood transcripts.  They would not budge on their insistence.

Many legal analysts when reviewing the Rupert Murdoch hacking scandal focus on what criminal charges can brought against him in Britain with some making the stretch to the U.S. by saying as the head of an American corporation he can lose all his TV stations here because the law forbids such ownership if you are convicted of a felony anywhere in the world.

There is a general anxiety creeping across America over the impasse in Congress that is taking our nation to the brink for the sake of self serving ideological malcontents.  But as my educator uncle said to me, this is a time when he recalls reading at age sixteen in the time between World War II and the Sixties a book that he found inspiration and inner strength in, JFK’s Profiles in Courage.

I was talking with my 82 year old mother in law about the state of the nation trying to figure out what happened here with politicians putting their own personal gain ahead of the good of the country and she says the problem is what has happened to the Republican Party, they’ve gone off a cliff.  She and I are both former Republicans and I knew she was right.

The power of the American women in the World cup though a win for Japan goes back to the push by American liberals years ago to equalize funding in sports between men and women resulting in Title IX leading to the explosion of women’s sports here in America and worldwide.

My mother in law likes to ask if tax cuts to the rich creates jobs because the rich are the “job creators” than where are all the jobs.  The answer is there are none because the claim is just more crank science from conservatives based on made up factoids that are completely fictional in nature.

There should be no need to defend an American president.  Our presidents are supposed to be strong almost like super heroes these leaders of the free world, of the planet in fact.  But there comes a time when one must be compelled to intercede into political affairs and stand by our president a leader elected to the highest office by a majority of American voters under the rules of our great democracy.

Let me begin by saying that I am not here to take credit for the marriage equality victory in New York but rather to provide a behind the scenes look at what went on in this epic battle from the viewpoint of a straight ally.

In the movie Chinatown we learn of incest, betrayal, violence and corruption all so Los Angeles can be provided with a sound supply of water.  Well, 60 miles north of New York City in the Town of Fishkill similar chicanery is going on that is endangering the lives of an entire neighborhood of families according to one resident who asked to remain anonymous.
