Famed Princeton University professor Cornell West and Broadcaster Tavis Smiley need to be seriously ashamed of themselves.
They have completed a week-long, 14-city “Poverty Tour” which highlighted the plight of America’s poor and directly critiqued President Obama for failing to stand up for them.
For one thing, Congress as a whole must still vote to approve the agreement — and for another, the deal creates a new congressional committee to tackle the age-old debate over federal debt and spending.
In a radio address broadcast Saturday, Obama called for a bipartisan deal to increase the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, while cutting federal spending in the years ahead.
The good news for President Obama, or any sitting president, the power of incumbency is very tough to win against, and Republicans are having a tough time with their field of candidates.
